Holy Cupcake Heaven!

Wednesday workout:
Run – 6.25 miles (sort of a speed workout, sort of not:/)

Well, I was supposed to do a speed workout today, and the workout started out alright, but about a third of the way through I was majorly running out of steam:(.  I tried to push through, but I just didn’t have it in me today:(.  I was just NOT feeling like myself.  I am not too worried about it, though.  I had a rough week last week and I think I am still recovering from the 10 miler on Saturday.

So, I cut the workout a bit short and just ran at a comfortable pace for a few more miles to finish it off.  I think you have to know when it’s time to push yourself, and when to listen to your body.  Today felt like a listen to my body kind of day!

Despite the crummy workout, the rest of my day was pretty awesome!!  I had some errands to run this afternoon, one of which included using my DSW coupons before they expired at the end of March!  I really needed some new basic black work shoes, and a new purse (both my everyday shoes and purse are in pretty bad shape…you know it’s bad when your husband notices and insists you buy a new purse…).  And I have been wanting a pair of nude heels:).

Not a very exciting color palette, I know, but I was in need of the basic work stuff!  It still makes me happy, though:).

You may have noticed that the heels on the shoes are pretty low.  A few years ago I was having a lot of problems with my left ankle hurting and locking up when I ran.  It got to the point where I couldn’t run more than 15 minutes before my ankle would completely lock up and I would have to stop!

I was going to the doctor but it was taking forever for them to decide what was wrong with me.  At some point along the way I decided to just stop wearing high heels and see if that helped.  Sure enough the pain in my ankle went away!  So to this day I try to only wear very low (kitten) heels or flats.  Every once in a while I put on my big girl heels (I still love the way they look, just not what they do to my ankle:/)–but only if I know I’m not going to be walking around much that day.

My afternoon snack also made me happy.  I had what Chocolate Covered Katie calls a banana hammock, hehe.

My banana hammock had Dark Chocolate Dreams, slivered almonds, and unsweetened coconut (from my Whole Foods trip).  Yum!

To make a banana hammock (hahaha…I laugh every time I say that), just cut your banana in half, fill with yummy ingredients, and make yourself a banana sandwich!


My day got even MORE exciting when Eric came home from work with this:

Heyo!!!  If you don’t recognize this, then you are really missing out!;)  This is a Georgetown Cupcake box!!

Georgetown Cupcake now has a show on TLC, which is serving their intended purpose and making me want to eat their cupcakes all the time.  I have thought about getting one the past couple of times I’ve been in Georgetown, but apparently now that they have a TV show they have become a tourist attraction.  Last time I went by the store there was a whole tour group in line and people taking pictures of it, etc.  No thanks!!

So I finally broke down and pre-ordered a box (if you pre-order, you can skip the line and pick them up).  Eric works nearby, so he was nice enough to bring them home for us me!  (I am sharing them with him, but let’s be honest–these were for me.  I don’t think he was nearly as excited about them as I was.  This morning the first thing I asked him when we woke up was if he was excited for cupcake day!!?!  He just grunted at me:/.)

Holy cupcake heaven!!!  The most exciting part about this is that these are six GTown Cupcake flavors I’ve never had before!!  (Okay so I’ve only had like five flavors, and they sell 73, so there are a lot I have not had before.)  Pictured (from the top left) are chocolate coconut, carrot cake, chocolate hazelnut, mint cookies and cream (March holiday flavor), lemon berry, and Bailey’s Irish cream (March holiday flavor).

*Drooooooool.*  It was all I could do to make myself eat my dinner before digging into these.

Today we decided to try the Irish cream and the chocolate coconut (we had half of each).

They were both AH-MAY-ZING!  Yum!  I love Bailey’s and the Irish creme really tasted like Bailey’s.  Yum yum yum.  We froze the other four so they would last (per Gtown cupcake’s instructions), so we’ll see how that works out!

Do you always try and push through your workouts or do you try and listen to your body and adjust accordingly?
-I learned (the hard way) during marathon training the importance of listening to my body.  I usually can tell when I’m just being a bum and I need to make myself push through, or when my body is really asking for a bit of a break!  So I think, anyway:)  This is really the first time in this training season that I have felt this way, so I am not too worried about just having one off day.

Have you ever had a Georgetown cupcake?  What’s your favorite flavor?  If you haven’t had one, what is your favorite flavor of cupcake in general?  (PS, if you’re not in the DC area you can’t use that as an excuse!  Gtown cupcakes now ships anywhere in the US!!!  Crazy!  Okay so maybe you do still have an excuse because shipping is kind of expensive.  But I think they have coupon codes for $10 off.)
-Hmm, this is really hard.  I think both the flavors I tried today are contenders for the favorites.  But I might have to say their salted caramel flavor…that one was pretty awesome!  I’m pretty excited about the carrot cake, though.  Anything with cream cheese frosting is a winner in my book!!

    What a good day despite the feeling the need for a bit of a break in training (which I think is smart)! I know someplace you can wear those cute new nude heels… 🙂 And my favorite is the salted caramel but I haven’t tried that many of their flavors yet either since I’ve only been that one time we went!

Definitely important to listen to your body – sometimes we have ideas of how long our recovery should take and what we should be able to push our bodies to do, but our bodies might need more time, a rest day, etc. I’ve found it’s best not to feel bad about it or beat yourself up – you ran out of steam for a reason, your body was telling you something, and better to listen to that and slow down rather than push through and just make yourself more fatigued.
    Oh my those cupcakes look amazing!! Dessert is a must for me, every night 🙂
