Blogger Brunch and Foot Pain

I realize I’m a little late here, but I wanted to tell you about my wonderful brunch on Sunday.  I met up with some new DC blogger friends, Beth, Chloe, and Stephanie at Lyon Hall in Arlington.  I had never been to Lyon Hall before, but I loved it!

The girls were so wonderful!  We chatted up a storm, and found out all kinds of fun things we had in common.  I found out Stephanie’s first tri was Philly 2008, with Team in Training DC…my first tri was Philly 2009, with Team in Training DC!! Too funny!!

Plus, I loved not feeling like a crazy person when I took out my camera when the coffee and food came (although we probably looked more crazy when ALL four of us were taking pictures of our food at the same time:).

I was in BAD need of coffee on Sunday.  French press coffee…yum.

It’s not brunch unless you have french toast!

The best part was the raspberry sauce (hiding under the syrup there).

And another picture, just because it was so pretty!

Well, I have some news about my foot. The good news is, my x-ray was clean–no stress fracture.  The problem with that news is, that means we’re not really sure what it is.

The doctor thinks it may be plantar fasciitis, but from some of the description I’m not really sure.  But, either way, if it’s some sort of tendon-type issue, the treatment is basically rest, ice, stretching, and anti-inflammatory medicine.  So, for the next week, I’m only supposed to swim and bike–no running.  After that, I get to run a little bit and see how it feels. If I still have pain after that, then it’s off to the podiatrist.

So, I may be panicking a little bit.  I hate just not knowing.  I was already starting to get very nervous about my half ironman in a week and a half, but now I am really freaking out.  Will I be able to do it?  What if I start and get all the way through the swim, and bike, and then I can’t finish the run?

I’ve had a few people tell me to just “run through it” or “walk the run section” …but I don’t really know if that’s possible.  I am always the person that runs through injuries.  I always think “the doctor is just going to tell me to rest, anyway, so I might as well keep running on it, and if it gets worst I rest, if it gets better I keep going!” But this pain is the kind of pain I can’t run through, at least not for 13.1 miles. I also don’t know if I could even walk on it for 13.1 miles, or if I would make the time cutoff for the race if I did that!

So many questions, and so much to worry about, but nothing I can do about it. All I can do is rest, do as much of my rehab as I can, and hope for best!

Please keep your fingers crossed for my foot!!

What’s your favorite brunch food? Are you a pancakes/french toast person, or an egg person?
– I don’t know why, because I do enjoy eggs, but I never crave them. Bring on the syrup!!

Oh, and happy Cinco de Mayo! Any plans to celebrate?
-I love a good cinco de mayo celebration, but I don’t love really crowded Mexican restaurants where you can’t get the waiter to bring you a glass of water even though you ask five times (that’s what happened to me last year). I don’t have any plans to celebrate as of right now, but as today is my last grad school class EVER, so I may just have to find some way to celebrate tonight:).

  1. You could pool run like there’s no tomorrow!

    • I’ve never aqua jogged before, but I am going to the pool tonight and I think I’m going to try it if I can find one of the belt thingies!:) Anything I can do to make this half ironman happen (and not suck horrible, hopefully:)

  2. Yelena says:

My sister had a stress fracture and some other hip problems. She used the belt in the pool all the time. Do you live in the Gaithersburg area still? I would be more than happy to let you borrow it if you wanted it. They are expensive so it stinks having to purchase it. She bought it online.

    • Aww, that’s so sweet of you to offer! Sadly, I am down in Alexandria now. I am hoping the county pool will have them…they usually have a bunch of stuff for their pool classes and usually let them use it. We’ll see tonight!:)

  3. Yelena says:

aww good luck! I hope they have them there 🙂

  4. I just found your blog from Corey’s and WOW! You are awesome. I hope your injury clears up in time for the race. And that french toast looks awesome!

  5. Dana says:

I’m sorry about your foot. I’m glad to hear that its not a stress fracture though! I hope that it gets better so that you can still run in the half ironman. I know how much that means to you and how hard you’ve been training for it! CONGRATS on being done with your last grad school class! Yayyyyyyyyy!!! So proud of you! We have lots to celebrate very soon! mwah!!!!!

  6. Aww, I love that all four of you were taking pictures of your food. That’s like being with my family. Every time we get together we all have our cameras out and are taking pictures of everything… love it! 🙂

Girl, I hope you can figure out what’s up with your foot so you can get some good answers!

    • Aw, I love that your family is all like that! My mom likes to take pictures but she still looks at me like I’m crazy when I take pictures of my food. BUT, she did send me a picture of her salad she had the other day! Haha, progress:) Thanks for the good wishes!!
