For this WIAW, I decided to do a family edition because I just had to share with you the amazing dinner I had with my family.

First, Sunday started off with my go-to breakfast: cocoa banana oatmeal! (You can’t go wrong with a classic, right?)

And because I wasn’t very hungry for lunch, I made a quick smoothie on my way out the door (not being hungry is very unlike me, but I think after a week my stomach has finally picked up on the fact that we are no longer training for a half ironman).

Peanut butter and banana smoothies are my favorite! Get the recipe here.

Last Sunday we got together to celebrate Mother’s Day. Yes, I do know that Mother’s Day was a few weeks ago, and no, I am not a terrible daughter. My brother and sister are the terrible children who were in college and were not able to make it home to celebrate ON actual Mother’s Day (just kidding about the terrible part, I love you guys!).

Anyway, we celebrate Mother’s Day when we want to celebrate Mother’s Day, mmkay?

Mi familia. (I took French in high school so if that’s spelled wrong don’t be a hater.)

Dinner was AH-MAY-ZING. Can you say, mountain of shish kebabs?

Alllll for me!

Okay, not really, but a girl can dream, right?

I seriously thought I was dreaming when it came to dinner, though.

Dad’s famous fried rice, grilled corn, dad’s famous deviled eggs (my dad is an awesome cook, so many of his food items are famous;), and grilled BBQ shish kebabs with zucchini, mushrooms, red pepper, yellow pepper, tomato, onion, and chicken. Sooo good.

And I got so excited to take a picture of my food so I could eat it that I forgot to include the mango chutney in the picture.

Don’t worry, a giant scoop of this stuff was added to my plate ASAP!

Dessert was fresh-sliced watermelon–yum! It was my first watermelon of the year (and I may have demanded politely requested that my dad have one if we were going to have a cookout). What is a cookout without watermelon?

I had a great time hanging out with the family and barbequing and eating dinner out on the deck.

And hanging out with my parents’ black lab puppies.

And you can’t forget Kodak, the elderly gentleman.

He apparently wanted some watermelon, too!

Also, my dad sent me home with leftover kebabs, rice, and watermelon. Does life get any better than great food, leftovers, and family time?

What is your favorite cookout food?

Do you have any BBQs planned for the holiday weekend?

Those puppies are so cute! Glad you guys enjoyed your visit with your family.

  2. ummmm fried rice sounds like the PERFECT side to eat kabobs with! I’m so copying your mother’s day eats =) count on it!

    Happy WIAW!!!! ❤

  3. Chuck says:

Oh no, you’ve got me craving ALL of that again!!

  4. Eric says:

    Nice haircut.

  5. Stephanie says:

Yum!!! i love grilled veggies. The corn looks yummy and the dogs are soo cute:)

    • Me too! I used to have a grill when I lived further out from the city in a townhouse, but now that we live in a condo we are not allowed to have one:(. I miss it so much! We have a countertop grill but it’s just not quite the same!

  6. Awww what a great day! Happy mother’s day to your mom. Our family celebrates stuff crazy late all the time, haha! It’s hard to get all of us kids in the same place at the same time. In fact, the last time was Nov 2008 and the time before that was July 2000. Yeah… that’s what happens when you have 5 kids who move across the globe – getting everyone together for holidays just doesn’t happen. Ah, oh well, at least I get to see most of my siblings frequently. 🙂

    • It was a great day, thank you Rach! Wow, five is a lot and I can’t imagine how hard it is having everyone so spread out! It’s so great that you are able to all get together and celebrate, though, even if it is a little early/late:).

  7. Anastasia says:

Those kabobs look amazing! There’s nothing like grilling out.

The pups are super cute with their bandanas.. I love it!

  8. Oh goodness, I just LOVE Kodak’s beard 🙂 What a cutie pie! Sounds like a great day!

  9. Emily says:

Looooove the puppies. I have two of my own 🙂

The cookout food looks delish. I love fresh fish on the grill, but I’m also a low country boil girl. Not exactly a “cookout” dish, but like kebobs or burgers it’s best enjoyed on a picnic table overlooking the water!

  10. That’s the tastiest BBQ I have ever seen! Well done! You know I entered your fantabulous giveaway!!

Give those pups and Kodiak a hug from me! 😉

  11. Peanut Butter Bandit says:

Everything looks so good!! And I’m so happy to have a new oatmeal and smoothie recipe now! YAY! I definitely need some variety for the next two weeks, as that’s pretty much all I can have. Thanks, dentist. Bleh!!
