Gotein Review + Giveaway

I got something exciting in the mail this week!

(I’m not sure why this is my ‘excited’ face, but apparently it is. I guess
I was just excited to eat these?:)

Gotein sent me some samples of their product to review. Gotein is a whey protein powder in a convenient “on-the-go” style package. From Gotein’s web site:

“Whether you are an athlete with a hectic training regimen or someone with a busy day to day schedule, Gotein is a perfect protein supplement for you.  Designed to mix in a standard 16.9 oz water bottle, Gotein is a portable source of protein for any individual.  Simply add a stick of Gotein to a standard 16.9 oz bottle of water, shake and then enjoy.  Containing only 100 lean calories, Gotein provides 17 grams of protein and is the only protein drink mix that offers 24 of the essential vitamins and minerals needed to fuel the body.  Gotein is truly the perfect low carbohydrate, low calorie protein supplement for those individuals looking to maintain a healthy diet balance throughout the day.

The idea behind Gotein is that you can take the individual serving packets with you when you’re on the go, mix them into a regular water bottle, shake, and enjoy! Pretty easy.

(Yes, I did have to share my goods with the husband. Part of the
marriage contract, unfortunately;)

I enjoyed being able to take a packet with me to the library, where food is not allowed, but closed drinks are. A great way to “sneak in” an afternoon snack:).

I am pretty picky about my protein powders, especially when I am drinking them plain (in water only), but these passed the test! They mix well and don’t have a very strong “protein powder” taste to them–you know the one I mean.

I did still enjoy mixing them in some other concoctions this week. I used one of the chocolate packets for my chocolate protein bake.

And I mixed another chocolate packet in my favorite smoothie recipe–peanut butter and banana–to make it peanut butter, banana, and chocolate. Chocolate makes everything better (this is my life motto, by the way)!

Want to try some Gotein for yourself? Gotein gave me a sample packet of all three flavors to send to a lucky reader! Here’s what you need to know:

Would love to try the Gotein powder. I do like the portability of the powders. I did not race this weekend. Started my training for my tri later. Have four tri’s in the next three months. They are sprints. Love the training portion just have to beef up the nutrition portion. I do love your blogs, thank you.

  2. Cherie says:

Oooh, thanks for bringing Gotein to my attention, Erin! I had never heard of it before, but for 100 cals and 17 grams of protein, I’m in. I’ll give it a shot!! 🙂

I am a new email subscriber! I am excited to have found your blog 🙂 I’m trying to incoroporate more clean eating into my life and love your ideas!!

  7. Why have I not seen this chocolate protein bake before!? yummm

    • You clearly need to be more on top of things. Haha, totally kidding! You post so much amazing food every day I can barely keep up as well. I am behind on your recipes…I really want to make your blueberry coconut muffins soon! Waiting until we finish off some more of the sweets we currently have:). The cherry ones also look delish!

  8. Priyanka says:

I have an aversion to protein powders because of the after taste. This one sounds quite good, hope you are feeling better with your injury now!

    • Oh yeah, I have had some BAD protein powders with some pretty strong aftertastes.
I am handling the injury okay lately. I actually have SO much work to do to finish my Master’s thesis, that it’s almost a welcome relief to not have to worry or feel guilty about not being able to work out. I still hope this foot mends soon, though! Thanks!

  9. Chuck says:

I raced! As you know- Race report coming soon!

    • Raced! More like kicked booty! Congrats again on an awesome performance in the wicket heat (no I’m not from Boston, but for some reason wicked just seemed appropriate here). Can’t wait to read the race report!!

PS, you are such a night owl! I always know when I get up in the morning and see that I had a comment at 2:00 am that it was from you, Chuck. Haha:).

      • Chuck says:

Thanks Erin! I actually love “wicked”, so we said!

And I know… its awful, I’ve got to start going to bed earlier… It’s my goal before I start work in the new job here in a week.
You should come visit me in Virginia Beach while I’m there this week!

        • Haha, I suppose I can’t really “yell” at you until I correct my own situation. I’ve gotten into a bad spiral of staying late working on my thesis, so waking up later, and then staying up later to still get work done, etc. It’s no good!

  10. so subscribed =) I heart your blog. giveaway or not ❤

    • Woohoo! Thanks Ms. Jenn! I luuuuuuuvs your blog, too! I didn’t see a way to subscribe by email but it’s in my Google reader (and it’s pretty much impossible for me to forget to check it, anyway;).

Erin, Illness has been a set back for me over this past twelve months with my prostate and infections. I celebrated my double nickel birthday this year and have dedicated it to restoring my health and competing again. I have now started a walking/jogging program and will get back on my bike soon. I enjoy your posts and incorporating convenient Gotein after a workout in th ehot Florida sun will be a blessing.

    • Michael, I am so sorry to hear about the setbacks you’ve been struggling with lately. Those are some really tough cards you’ve been dealt, but I have so much admiration for you that you’ve dedicated yourself to restoring your health and getting back into competing! That’s so great. Thank you so much for following and for entering. I am happy to have you in my little blog family:).

  18. The packaging looks convenient – which I love! I’m interested to read the ingredients. I definitely agree with you as far as protein-powder taste! Love that you incorporated it into your protein-bake. Looks so yummy!

  19. Green Groats says:

These sound cool! Never heard of them before.
I love the looks of your protein bake. Yummy.

I ran a 10k this weekend. I didn’t PR, but I was satisfied with my time. Surprisingly, my quads were quite sore Sunday and Monday…I’ve been doing quite a bit of running, so I didn’t really expect to be sore. I was kind of just using the race as a tempo run, but I guess I ended up pushing myself more than I expected. I’m running another 10K in August several weeks after my Half-iron, and I’m hoping to improve my time by a few more minutes. All in all, a fun race!

    • Congrats on your 10k!! It sounds like it was still a good race, even if it wasn’t a PR (they can’t all be:). Oh wow, I don’t know if I realized that you were training for a half-iron! I just did my first a month ago. Is this your first? Which one are you doing? I’ll have to do some more blog stalking to see if I can answer my own questions:).

  20. tricia says:

I’ve heard great things about them. And too bad about that marriage contract, I made sure mine said “whats yours is mine and whats mine is mine”

ok, that just makes me sound greedy 🙂

  21. Lauren says:

Would love to try this!! I’ve been meaning to try out some different types of protein powders that I can start using as marathon training ramps up, and I love the portability of this! I subscribe to your blog!

    • I liked the portability, too!:) Thanks Lauren! PS I ready your blog post on my phone this morning but I still need to comment. I will soon, I just have been SO crazy busy trying to make progress on my thesis. Blehhhh.

  22. Lauren says:
